SWISS applies the same principles to its cargo division as it does to its passenger services: quality first. Swiss WorldCargo offers a comprehensive range of logistics solutions for transporting high-value and care-intensive consignments and accounts for 11% of SWISS’s total sales revenue. Its extensive network of air cargo services is supplemented by daily truck connections between key business centres.
Swiss WorldCargo currently employs around 300 staff worldwide, providing services to 130 destinations in over 80 different countries and sending more than 600,000 shipments a year a total of 1,647 million tonne-kilometres. And it manages to do all this with outstandingly high levels of customer satisfaction.
Goods such as medical and biotech products, electronic components and fresh produce require not only fast transportation but also a constant temperature throughout the logistics chain to ensure they arrive at their destination unspoiled. Swiss WorldCargo uses special containers that maintain the set temperature (from -20°C to +20°C) within a 2°C range during transportation.
Every year, Swiss WorldCargo transports around 4,000 animals all over the world. Whether it's a pet on its way to a new home or a wild animal being transported for a conservation project, almost every type of animal has been on board with us.
The cargo holds used by SWISS on long-haul flights are equipped with air-conditioning systems, enabling the temperature to be adjusted as needed. We also keep the air pressure at the same level as that in the cabin.
Our forklift trucks have a top speed of 20 km/h and travel around four kilometres every single day. In any 24-hour period the 87 forklift trucks can move a combined load of 700 to 800 tonnes.
Our handling partner Cargologic employs a team of packaging pros for all its palleting needs. This task requires a good eye and experience to ensure that both larger and smaller freight can be packaged together as tightly and securely as possible. Each member of the team processes around 800 kilos an hour. The number of pallets per flight depends on the type of plane. Long-haul flights can carry up to five pallets.
Precious metals and foreign currency, jewellery and watches, art and antiques, classified documents and data sticks, rare blood types, life-saving medical equipment: whatever the contents of a high-security shipment may be, Swiss WorldCargo employs special security containers and staff to protect it. Total discretion included.
As well as aiming to achieve the latest acceptance, the fastest transfer and the earliest delivery times, Swiss WorldCargo also strives to provide its customers with tailor-made logistics solutions which ensure that every cargo consignment is integrated seamlessly into the client’s supply chain management. This includes last-minute bookings and flexibility when it comes to a consignment’s weight and volume.
